This easy-going cycle tour begins in Beijing, located in northeast of China. This tour is intended for those with little or no cycle-touring experience and will include multiple opportunities to see sections of the Great Wall. The tour will be vehicle-supported, meaning there will be a guide, and we will utilize a vehicle to carry luggage, supplies, and, when needed, riders and bicycles.

Some highlights included in this tour include: Beijing city and Hutong areas, the Forbidden City, Ming Tombs, hiking on the "wild" Great wall, the Simatai section of the Great Wall, the Summer Palace Resort in Chengde, and descending off the North China Plain to where the Great Wall meets the sea in Shanhaiguan.

1 Beijing 16/25 Explore Beijing's famous 'hutongs' (small alleyways) by bicycle, Tian'anmen and the outside of Zhongnanhai (residence of current leaders). If interested, Beijing Opera or other activity in the evening.
2 Changping 28/44 Forbidden City, Great Hall of the People, MaoZedong Mausoleum, Temple of Heaven Park.
3 Liulimiao 64/102 “wild” section of the Great Wall.
4 Simatai 62/99 Cycle through the Miyun Reservoir area with spectacular rock formations and spend the night at the base of Simatai Great Wall site.
5 Chengde 73/117 Great Wall Hike between Simatai and Jinshanling, then cycle to Chengde.
6 Kuancheng Zhen 55/88 Cycle to some of Chengde's sights including the Summer Palace Resort and the Tibetan Monastery or a small replica of the Potala Palace in Lhasa. Mid-day begin cycling to Kuancheng Zhen for a nice meal and quite evening.
7 Maquanzi Zhen 53/85 Get to the Yangdao River and begin a long descent towards Maquanzi Zhen, passing some beautiful reservoirs along the way.
8 Shanhaiguan 69/110 Last big day of cycling on the way into Shanhaiguan, well continue the decent, only interrupted by a few flat sections, until we reach the sea.
9 Beijing 14/22 Visit sites in Shanhaiguan in the morning including ‘Old Dragon Head’ and the ‘First Pass Under Heaven’ and other fortifications as the Great Wall meets the Bohai Sea. In the afternoon we’ll take a fast train or vehicle transport back to Beijing from Shanhaiguan and the tour will conclude.

Group size: 2 - 5

Accommodations: Will be basic Chinese hotels generally of the 1-3 star variety. On occasion it may be necessary to use a 0-star hotel.  The prices are for double occupancy rooms, and will vary depending on the number of people who participate.

Single room supplement: US$280

This tour is limited to no more than eight people. This will permit more flexibility in the program and allow more spontaneity for taking photos or exploring villages along the way.

Prices include the following:

1. All hotel accommodations (double occupancy) for nine nights.
2. All meals eaten as group (private meals, snacks and alcoholic beverages are not included).
3. All group transportation costs (buses, boats, and taxis) including to/from the Beijing airport.
4. All group entrance fees.
5. Bicycle rental including helmet.
6. Bilingual cycling tour guide/mechanic.

This will be a vehicle-supported ride. This means that a vehicle will carry luggage between destinations (and cyclists when necessary).

If you decide to do something on your own, you will be responsible for those costs.

Cost: Prices depend on the total number of people going on the tour and the time of year. Below are the price per person (pp) and quoted in US dollars (US$) for non-holiday periods*:

An announcement of the cost of the tour will be made to the group 60-days prior to the start based on the number of registered members.

A deposit of $500 per person is required. This is fully refundable up to 60 days prior to the start of the tour. Submission of a deposit will guarantee your place on the tour. Balance is due at least 60 days prior to the beginning of the tour and payable by credit card, wire transfer, or personal check.
